The ‘CDA’ hopper wagons were built by BREL at Doncaster between 1987 and 1989, based on the same design as the merry-go-round ‘HAA’ wagons, but for use on china clay traffic in Devon and Cornwall. The ‘CDA’ hopper differs from the ‘HAA’ in that it has a roll-top canvas hood to protect the china clay (also known as kaolin) from the elements.
