Details

The Rhaetian Railway (RhB) is one of Switzerland’s largest private railway companies, operating a network of more than 400 km, primarily within the canton of Graubünden. The present-day RhB was formed through the merger of several earlier railways, including the Landquart–Davos Railway (LD), the Bernina Railway (BB) and the Chur–Arosa Railway (ChA).

To mark 100 years since the formation of this extensive network, RhB introduced a special retro livery for an ABe 8/12 Allegra trainset. The design pays tribute to the railway’s heritage while also celebrating the 15th anniversary of the Albula and Bernina lines being inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Each carriage carries a different livery representing one of the historic railways that formed the RhB and the routes on which the Allegra operates today. Offering a moving panorama of the railway’s history in a single train, the striking set has become affectionately known locally as the “Ahnenzug” (Ancestor Train).

Combining modern, state-of-the-art rolling stock with nostalgic colour schemes, the train has attracted considerable attention from both railway enthusiasts and the travelling public.
