


AC002 Messerschmitt Bf109E-4 Luftwaffe 1940 Model Aircraft
The Messerschmitt Bf 109 is a German produced aircraft, used mainly during WW2. The aircraft, along with the Focke-Wulf Fw 190, featured heavily in the Luftwaffe’s fighter squadrons. The first action seen by this model was during the Spanish Civil War in 1937, and the type was still in active duty at the end of WW2, at the start of the jet age.
The version seen here is one of the E series of this aircraft. This designation was given to the aircraft after it was rebuilt with structural changes to accommodate a larger engine, increased fuel capacity, and heavier armament.
The Model
The model presented here is that of one of the aircraft involved in The Three Nights Blitz of Swansea beginning on February 19th 1941. Over 40 atatchs were made during this time, and 230 people were killed with an additional 397 indured according to reports. The area was selected for this attack due to it's importance as a port and dock, as well as having the additional target of an oil refinery beyond.
